Now, it's challenging to rehearse with only two or three parts, especially since we have four new songs in various state of progress. But it's worth it.
We dug into the intertwining parts and discovered interesting intervals and delicious dissonance. We aligned some vowels and agreed on sync. At one point, we each sang the bass line for the other to cement those intervals as well.
Other quartet members who read this (umm...is anyone reading this? leave a comment won't you?) are nodding, thinking, "yup, duet and trio are great!" So this is not an earth-shattering insight. But we want to share it because sometimes it's tempting to think, "well maybe we should cancel since we don't have four parts" -- and this is a reminder to ourselves that it's worth it to get together anyway and, as Nike would say, JUST DUET!
