The classes with Peggy, Dale, Tomi and Swinglish Mix were amazing! Good information and great interaction from the 42 quartets and several observers in attendance.
Then, there coaching sessions - with a wide range of participants, you had a lot to chose from to pick where you wanted to observe. I think watching Dale coach Luminous was a highlight for most of us in attendance. They are so skilled and focused; they responded to every suggestion with trust and abandon, and it paid off. Goosebump city for those of us watching! This will sound weird, since I could be these girls mother, but I want to be them when I grow up!
Finally, we had two coaching sessions ourselves -- first Saturday afternoon with Eleanor, the Tenor of Swinglish Mix and then Sunday morning with Patty, their Bari. Both session were GREAT! They really listened to what we want to do with our songs and then sprinkled their Queenly insights into lyric intent and interpretation to make HUGE differences in our sound and our performance. Best of all, it wasn't just "do this" it was "this is how we approach it" -- so we have new tools that we can apply to any song.
The trip back we were all just raving about what we'd learned and how we want to capture the feeling we had at the weekend going forward. We're a young quartet (the quartet, not the members!) with a lot to learn, but rubbing vocal cords with Queens really energized and inspired us.
If you get the chance to go--whether you're currently in a QT or not -- RUN, don't walk to the nearest Queens' College and enjoy! I know we did. : )
